world circus

Starting December 10th, 2009 NBM will be traveling all throughout Europe filming a feature documentary "World Circus Culture". I will be traveling with Angela Snow from To The Moon Productions, in conjunction with the Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo (International Circus Festival), Telmondis (audiotelevision company), and the World Circus Federation.

This film takes the subject of the Circus worldwide and gives it an international perspective as never done before. The circus has a culture of its own, a culture outside and beyond age, country and time; that's what makes it so unique. Highly overlooked, the Circus is a unique subject that has the ability to open up the hearts and imaginations of young and old, rich and poor, conservative and liberal. The film will invite viewers to enter the world of the circus, where, for both the performers and the audience, differences are suspended and magic and art unite. It will be a reminder to those who have forgotten that the world of make-believe and magic still lives in the art of the Circus, the characters that create it, and a old rich history. Both the magical and the extreme physical elements of the Circus will educate and inspire, and the artists will be brought into the well-deserved mainstream spotlight.

22 years from home

In April 2009, NBM was hired as the Director of Photography by Left Brain Right Brain Productions to travel for a 35 day shoot to Southern Sudan. The crew followed the reunion of Kuek Aleu Garang with his family after 22 years apart. Kuek is among the thousands of Lost Boys from the Sudanese civil war. Since the peace treaty was signed in 2005, the people in the south have been in the process of rebuilding. The film will chronicle Kuek's reunion with family at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Northern Kenya.

The larger part of Kuek's mission was focused on conducting an assesment with the goal of building a primary school in the town of Wernyol in Twic East County. There is a great need for a proper permanent educational facility in this area which has upwards of 700 students enrolled with only 6 teachers. The need is both critical and pressing and here is link to The Abek Community Development Program, Kuek is the this president and founder of this non-profit organization and is working to raise finishing funds. Trippin banner

In 2005, six friends road-tripped to a remote cabin in the woods with deadly results.  A year later, the sole survivor met directrix Devi Snively in a bar and offered the rights to his story for a case of beer and a role in the movie. trippin’ is that movie.  So prepare yourself for a little sex, a little gore, and some good and bad times with some good and bad buds. “It’s The Big Chill for a Kevin Smith generation with a puppet!”

In November 2008, the Museum of Contemporary Art held a retrospective for the artist Jenny Holzer. Ms. Holzer is an artist of international acclaim and her projections have been featured in cities all over the world. For her debut in Chicago, we assisted with the large-scale scale outdoor projections. Monolithic in scale, the poems of Wislawa Szymborska were cast onto Chicago landmarks which included the Civic Opera House, the Tribune Tower, and the Merchandise Mart. There was a special projection onto the facade of the MCA for the exhibits opening night.

We have assisted with the Chicago-area photographer Michelle Nolan on a number of recent shoots. Nolan's work has been featured in Time Out Chicago Magazine. New Bound Media has recently assisted with her work for the Time Out article on the Chicago Marathon.

We are in the process of editing the twenty-plus hours of footage that we collected while we were traveling with the Last Great American Road Trip. This ambitious journey embarked on August 19th last year and made stops at the Chelsea Hotel in New York City, the now-historical Democratic Convention in Denver, Colorado and the Burning Man Project in the Nevada desert. The trailer is available on our website.

UofC Fashion Show

This was a really fun shoot which took place in the historic Mandel Hall on the University of Chicago's campus. The auditorium provided an ornate theatrical backdrop which dramatically showcased the creativity of each of the seven young designer's senior collections.

In June and July of 2008, KN Gallery hired New Bound Media to serve as the shipping coordinator for all gallery inventory.  We managed the installation of their multimedia summer art show, Raw Boundaries. The show featured an eclectic group of artists working across many different media. The collection included the artist Ana Fernandez with her video installation and miniature paintings.
The work of Chris Natrop proved to be a terrific challenge to install as his work was a series of fragil, vine-like paper cutouts.
